
Museum of Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine
The Museum of “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” – the largest museum in Ukraine dedicated to Jewish heritage – was opened in 2012. It is called to reflect the depth of the Holocaust tragedy and, at the same time, the wonder and richness of Jewish civilization, which was almost completely destroyed on the territory of Eastern Europe.
Among the objects contained in the collections and exhibition halls of the Museum are Judaics objects and a collection of spiritual literature publications of the 18th–20th centuries, household items of the 19th–20th centuries, artifacts related to the Holocaust tragedy (literature, leaflets and announcements, equipment and weapons), personal complexes of Jews participating in World War II, documents, manuscripts and photographs related to the history of the Jews of Ukraine.
A special feature of the Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” is a combination of traditional showcases with exhibits and multimedia installations, holograms, and broadcasting of video and audio recordings. The Museum also has rooms for temporary visitors’ exhibitions, an information center, a library, and classrooms.
Educational events are systematically held in the museum space – museum themed lessons, interactive classes for schoolchildren and students, presentations of historical editions, commemoration ceremonies to the Holocaust victims and other socially significant events. The Museum cooperates with the Jewish community of Dnipro and other Jewish centers in Ukraine.
The achievements and experience of the world’s leading museums and museum exhibition centers were used during the creation of exhibitions. Original artistic means and design, as well as the latest information and audiovisual multimedia technologies, are part of the exhibitions, were used. The total area of the Museum exhibition is about 3,000 square meters, and more than 18,000 unique exhibits are placed on it.
The Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” is open to visitors on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; group tours by appointment are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
