What’s Cooking online?
Can surfing the Internet make you hungry? Sure! Especially if you get immersed in the new virtual exhibition. Luckily, there are many ways to tackle this problem — one click and you will find recipes for starters, dinners and deserts that you simply won’t be able to resist!
“What’s Cooking” online exhibition acquaints its viewers with the culinary culture of European Jews, especially the diaspora residing within the historic borders of Poland. It provides a fantastic opportunity to get to know recipes that were once used by our great-grandmothers, and to try them out at home. Some recipes evolved in a quite unexpected way, having been exposed to a new climate, new spices, ingredients and traditions.
And yet, “What’s Cooking” online is much more than merely a set of recommendations on what and how to cook. All it takes is a computer, a smartphone or a tablet, and you can learn a lot about the Jewish history and culinary culture which dates back thousands of years.
To help you in your virtual journey, we divided the exhibition into four thematic paths: “Tradition”, “Diaspora”, “Modernity” and “Memories”. Each part is full of photos, stories, films and other tidbits. The online exhibition is based on the materials prepared for the temporary exhibition which is open for viewing at POLIN Museum until December 2022. However, even people who have seen the exhibition already at the Museum will not be bored — the online version offers new, expanded content that is just one click away.
Surely, there are recipes, too — as soon as you get hungry, you can take a break and bring the exhibition into your own kitchen! After all, food always tastes better in the real world. Bon appetite!
