Course: Designing Online Educational Experiences

With museums worldwide closing their doors as a result of the pandemic, the challenges of educators rapidly changed. Quickly adapting to the new situation was a top priority for the museum community. As last year showed, moving your pedagogical practice from the museum floor to the virtual world poses challenges on many different levels. When your workload is high, when time is limited and when you’re facing a merge of professional and private life, realizing a smooth transition to an online learning environment and reinventing yourself as an online museum pedagogue can be a challenge.

In Designing Online Educational Experiences, the first online course of AEJM’s new MEST programme for educators of European Jewish museums, we will go back to the basics. During 2 online live workshop sessions, Maciek Zabierowski will work with a group of ca. 15 educators, focusing on examples from our network of Jewish museums. In between the sessions there is time for your own project work.

Upon completion of this short interactive course each participant

will demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of online learning design;
will be able to deconstruct and analyse existing online learning activities;
will have applied this knowledge and designed a sample online activity appropriate for own professional context.

Initiated by POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews and Oslo Jewish Museum, AEJM’s Museum Education Seminars and Training (MEST) is a new professional development programme that addresses educators from Jewish museums in Europe. The programme will consist of a series of online activities, comprising interactive workshops and lectures, exchange of best practice, and peer-to-peer support and network opportunities. Jewish Museum in Trondheim holds a role of as a partner in the program.

MEST is part of the Jewish Cultural Heritage Project supported by the EEA Grants from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and by the state budget of Poland.
