Dear Friends of the AEJM,
Dear Colleagues,

In the last issue of the AEJM Newsletter in 2023, we reflect on the challenging times that have unfolded in recent months. Since the outburst of war between Israel and the Terrorist Organization Hamas, our work has taken on a significant focus on understanding the consequences and impacts on our member institutions. We are all witnessing an uprise of antisemitism in Europe since October 7th. We, as AEJM, see our responsibility in creating a forum of exchange on how to face and fight this uprise since our member institutions are majorly exposed to hostility. To do so, we will host a talking session focusing on the current rise of antisemitism within the next weeks, which will be announced soon.

On November 28th, about 40 leaders from member museums of CAJM and AEJM gathered for a confidential talking session. The focus of this meeting was to delve into the repercussions of the terror attacks on October 7th and the ensuing war, specifically examining the impact on our member institutions. Reports from our members, particularly on topics of communication and security, took center stage during this event. We facilitated a space for confidential exchange through Zoom breakout rooms, allowing for a nuanced and open conversation.

Looking ahead to 2024, we are excited to announce the launch of a bi-monthly online education and training event. We encourage our members to reach out with topic requests and ideas for contributions and participation throughout the year. This initiative aims to foster a collaborative learning environment for our membership.

In addition to these developments, the AEJM Board introduced a new format – “Notes from the Board.” We will regularly share our board members’ experiences, statements, or recommendations through this. The initial contribution comes from Prof. Dr. Mirjam Wenzel, the director of the Jewish Museum Frankfurt. Ensure you follow our social media channels to stay updated on these insightful notes and more.

As we approach the end of 2023, the AEJM extends warm wishes to all our members, friends, and followers. May the conclusion of 2023 be peaceful, and as we enter the time of Channuka, may it bring light and joy to all.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season.

Thank you for your continued support!
