Third Anniversary of the Hamas Terrorist Attack of October 7, 2023

Today marks the third anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack of October 7, 2023. We remember those who lost their lives, and we stand with the survivors and with all those who are still mourning their loved ones.

That day changed Jewish life profoundly, in Israel and across the Diaspora, and three years later its consequences are still deeply felt. The attack and the wars that followed have also left a lasting mark on our member museums and on their staff.

To support our members through these challenges, AEJM, together with our colleagues at the Council of American Jewish Museums (CAJM), set out to understand their situation more closely. Two surveys, conducted in 2024 and in a second round with the directors and executives of our networks, have given us valuable insight into our members’ needs, helping us shape our response and strengthen the support we offer in a radically changed landscape. The findings, summarized in a report, highlight the pressures our museums face, including a broad increase in antisemitic incidents, and point to where our joint efforts can make the greatest difference. The full report is available here.
