Anna Lowenstein will present her new album "Through The Walls" at Manchester Jewish Museum as part of Klez-March 2026

Klez-March! A Month of Yiddish Music at Manchester Jewish Museum

In March 2026, the Manchester Jewish Museum will be filled with the joyful sounds of klezmer, with a vibrant programme of three special events celebrating traditional Jewish music and its living legacy.

Klezmer is a lively, expressive style of traditional Jewish music that began in the Yiddish-speaking communities of Eastern Europe during the Middle Ages. It was often played at celebrations like weddings and is known for its emotional, almost voice-like melodies. As Jewish communities migrated, especially to the United States, it evolved and is now enjoyed as a global music genre. This March, visitors to Manchester Jewish Museum can not only enjoy live klezmer music but also participate, through three special events. From the lively, hands-on energy of ‘Klezmer Tune Club and KlezJam’, where musicians of all abilities can join in, to ‘Yiddish Revolutionaries: A Forgotten History’, uncovering the radical roots of Yiddish song and activism, and ‘Anna Lowenstein: Through the Walls. A Yiddish String Quartet’, weaving an intimate portrait of a community, people, and history. Join Manchester Jewish Museum for a month of rhythm, history and connection, as klezmer echoes through their stunning museum spaces.
