The Travelling Exhibition Power of the Word Arrives in Copenhagen

The traveling exhibition The Power of the Word arrives in Copenhagen, exploring the history and contemporary relevance of antisemitism through libraries, workshops, and public engagement.

After being presented in four cities across Funen and Jutland during the spring of 2026, the traveling exhibition The Power of the Word comes to Copenhagen through a close collaboration between the Danish Jewish Museum and the Municipality of Copenhagen.

Copenhagen has long played a central role in the history of Jewish life in Denmark, making it a natural next destination for the exhibition. Throughout the autumn of 2026, four public libraries in Copenhagen will host the exhibition.

The Power of the Word is part of a national initiative dedicated to bringing history into everyday public spaces and fostering informed conversations about antisemitism. By presenting historical perspectives in accessible settings such as libraries, the exhibition seeks to provide visitors with a deeper understanding of what antisemitism is, how it has developed over time, and why it remains a relevant issue today.

While the subject matter is complex, the exhibition encourages visitors to look beyond individual words and examine the broader historical contexts in which prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination emerge. Through historical examples, personal narratives, and thought-provoking displays, the exhibition invites reflection on the power of language and its consequences.

Museum Director Janus Møller Jensen highlights the importance of the initiative:
“There is a huge need for information about what antisemitism is and what it means. It is absolutely fantastic to experience the support from the Municipality of Copenhagen for this information effort, which helps to anchor and extend an initiative that was started as a national initiative.”

Developed in collaboration with exhibition architects Torden & Lynild, the exhibition originates from the Danish Government’s action plan against antisemitism.

As part of each exhibition period, Danish Jewish Museum will also collaborate with local schools, offering workshops that encourage students to engage critically with history, language, and contemporary society. Through these activities, the museum brings its collections and expertise beyond its walls and into the communities where people meet, learn, and discuss.
