The Girl Who Wrote: Luna Ambron’s Esther Scroll

Following the successful exhibition on Rosa Freudenthal’s workshop, the Jewish Art and Life Wing is excited to mount a new exhibition that centers around an extraordinary Italian Esther scroll and blessing sheet scribed by a 14-year-old girl in 1767, and it includes the only other two known Esther scrolls scribed by women.

The exhibition will highlight themes of women’s education and their participation in the liturgical aspect of the community as a prominent family in Rome at the time. Appropriately, it will open on March 1, 2026, just in time for the Purim holiday (when the Scroll of Esther is read in synagogues) and International Women’s Day.
