Dariusz Stola reinstated as Director of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews
The AEJM congratulates the renowned historian Dariusz Stola on his reinstatement as director of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews by the Polish Ministry of Culture. His new term will begin on March 1, 2026.
Stola is an award-winning researcher on modern Polish history, the Holocaust, Polish-Jewish relations and questions of memory. In 2024, he was appointed president of the International Auschwitz Committee. That same year, he became a member of the Academia Europaea and the Program Council of the Jewish Historical Institute.
The reinstatement of Stola as director closes a circle because he was director of POLIN museum from the opening year 2014 until 2019. After being forced to reapply for the position he had successfully fulfilled for five years, but was not reappointed, Stola decided to withdraw in February 2020 so that one of his acting deputy directors Zygmunt Stępiński had to take over. The board of the AEJM would like to thank Zygmunt Stępiński for his seven-year tenure and for guiding the Museum effectively and safely through many challenging moments, and is looking forward to work with Dariusz Stola, again.
