Annual Conference in Amsterdam, new Chair of the Board and new Board members

Dear Friends of the AEJM,
Dear Colleagues,

Our Annual Conference took place in Amsterdam from June 16 to 18, 2024. Over three days, almost 100 colleagues from 40 European Jewish museums gathered to exchange ideas and discuss ongoing topics. This year, the focus of the conference was on dealing with crises. The question of how we, as Jewish museums, communicate on the rapidly changing requirements inside and outside our institutions stood out among the many topics that were part of the conference. Of course, we also turned our attention to Israel, where our colleagues have been working in a permanent state of emergency since October 7, 2023. We thank all conference participants for three productive and exceptionally constructive days and are already looking forward to next year!

At the end of the conference, our Annual General Meeting took place. After more than seven years, Emile Schrijver, director, Jewish Cultural Quater Amsterdam, was succeeded as Chair of our Board by Mirjam Wenzel, director, Jewish Museum Frankfurt. We express our deepest gratitude to Emile for his many years of commitment and extremely important work for our Association!

Petra Katzenstein (Jewish Cultural Quarter Amsterdam), Sharon Reichel (National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah), and Michaela Seidenberg (Jewish Museum of Prague) were elected as new Board members.

Especially these days, we would like to reiterate our unwavering solidarity for our colleagues in Israel. We encourage you to keep in touch and support them wherever possible, knowing that our collective strength is a source of comfort and resilience.

The Association of European Jewish Museums wishes you all a good summer.
