Professional Development Program – The Basis of I ASK
Starting in late November 2024, we are offering AEJM members a free series of four online workshops introducing the I ASK method.
During this year’s AEJM conference in Amsterdam, the I ASK method was briefly introduced to our members and was enthusiastically received. I ASK is designed to enhance museum professionals’ practices, including guided tours, educational programs and exhibition design, with the aim of opening minds.
Delivered by Judith Whitlau of the Department of Education at the Jewish Cultural Quarter and organizational psychologist Irith Koster (TACT), who are co-developers and trainers of the method, we feel that this method offers essential tools to support you in bringing your important contribution to the world around you, especially in these challenging times.
This series offers the basic stance and underpinnings of the method and is offered for AEJM members at no charge. Participants will explore the impact they would like to have on their visitors and cultivate ground conditions to make that happen, such as a curious and inviting attitude. Also, they will develop practical skills to navigate challenging conversations within the museum context. Attending these workshops will allow you to gain important insights and tools that can be helpful in your daily work at the museum, whether you are a museum director, an educator, a curator, or another museum professional.
Please note: Additional training and purchasing the I ASK manual is required to learn how to work with the seven steps of the method during museum programs and tours. Participants will receive information about this during the online sessions and on request.
